Zincate-type enolate for radical α-trifluoromethylation

Ketone zincate-type enolates can be applied to radical trifluoromethylation for the general synthesis of α-CF₃-ketones, cyclopentanones in particular. The addition of diethylzinc to lithium enolates is the key in the preparation of the zincate-type enolates for efficient radical trifluoromethylation.     

Crosslinked poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) gel for electrophoretic separation and recovery of substances

Crosslinked poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) gel was tested on the feasibility for a preparative electrophoretic matrix. Horse heart myoglobin and bovine hemoglobin were well separated on the gel matrix electrophoretically by molecular sieving effect of the gel network. Relative mobilities of those proteins in the gel were larger than those in a crosslinked polyacrylamide gel of the same polymer concentration. After the separation, the protein-containing portion of the gel underwent swelling at 4°C and deswelling at 37°C, alternatively. As a result of the deswelling, each protein was recovered in a discharged solution out of the gel at almost 100% yield.     

The norrish type II reaction of the cyclic thioimides with a benzylic hydrogen

On irradiation cyclic thioimides with N-ω-phenylalkyl substituents undergo the Norrish type II cyclization when benzylic hydrogen is available at the δ or ε-position of the thiocarbonyl group.     

Mixed-valence states of 11, 1111-dialkyl- and 11, 1111-bis(methylbenzyl)biferrocenium triiodides

It was found that the packing of cations and anions influences the electronic structures of mixed-valence binuclear ferrocene derivatives. Temperature-dependence of the mixed-valence state of 1¹, 1¹¹¹-diisobutylbiferrocenium triiodide was observed in a crystalline state, whereas only a trapped-valence state was found in a dispersed state. The packing effect was also observed for a series of 1¹, 1¹¹¹-dialkyl- and 1¹, 1¹¹¹-bis(methylbenzyl)biferrocenium triiodides by means of ESR spectroscopy.     

Beta-NMR measurement of 58Cu in Si

The β-NMR study of short-lived nucleus ⁵⁸Cu (I ^π ?=?1^?+?, T _1/2?=?3.2 s) in Si has been performed. Spin polarization of ⁵⁸Cu induced by the charge exchange reaction of ⁵⁸Ni was observed in Si at 15 K. The ⁵⁸Cu magnetic moment $|\upmu[^{58}\mbox{Cu}]| = (0.46 \pm 0.03)\upmu_{\rm N}$ deduced from the β-NMR spectrum is consistent with the previous results on the laser spectroscopy. The present result shows that the ⁵⁸Cu nucleus is promising as a new nuclear probe for the microscopic study of Cu impurities in Si.
